The female is smaller than the male and has no horns. Their coat is thick and long. In summer, its fur is brown-blackish on the back, and the belly and legs are lighter; in winter, it is greyish.

The moose has exceptional hearing, and its ears can be turned 180°; its sense of smell is well used to detect food under snow. The moose seems to see only moving objects.

It feeds in spring on bushes, leaves, shoots, and bark. In winter, when the vegetation is dry, it feeds on conifer needles.

The pairings of the moose take place between September and October, and the young are born of just 11-16 kg. Usually, a young are born every year, but in favorable years with good availability of food, even two can be born.

Moose cubs are easy prey for wolves and bears. The social and physical maturity is reached in the first five years of life: the males begin to show off a beautiful stage, and the females start to reproduce.

The moose can reach even 60 km/h and is a powerful swimmer.
The moose is among the most abundant mammals in North America, only the bison, and some bears are more massive.
