Groundhog lives in pairs and their offspring. In burrows, they build themselves. They weigh 8kg, are 55cm long and 18cm high, and live for about 15 years. They feed on grasses, wild berries, and roots, so they are herbivores.
Most groundhogs live in Eurasia and North America (they are found in the central and western Alps, then were introduced into the Pyrenees).

When they are two years old, they reach sexual maturity, and their gestation time is around five months and the birth of 4-5 young.
These animals are very sociable and use a wide variety of sounds to communicate with each other, especially when trying to warn of danger.
Their main enemies are birds such as the raven, the owl, or the golden eagle. They store food and hibernate in their burrows during the winter, i.e., approximately seven months.
On the other hand, Groundhog Day is a folkloric method used by farmers, especially in the U.S. and Canada, to predict the end of winter.
This is based on the animal’s behavior when it comes out of hibernation on February 2. This day marks about half of the period between the winter solstice and the spring equinox:
If the groundhog does not see its shadow when it comes out of its burrow, because it is a cloudy day, it will leave the burrow, which means that winter will soon be over.
If, because it is a sunny day, the groundhog “sees its shadow” and goes back into its burrow, it means that winter will last six more weeks.
